OUR HISTORY.

Founded by a handful of students in 2003, RAM Squad was created to bring the flavor of hip-hop to the Penn State Community. Flavor that consists of numerous ingredients: breaking, popping, locking, waving, krumping, house, choreo, and everything in between.
True hip-hop was not born in a classroom; it became a way for individuals and crews to express their emotions through lyrics and dance wherever and whenever. With this in mind, RAM planted its roots as a freestyle crew in order to showcase the founding members' love for the art of dance. Since then, RAM has grown to represent more elements - teaching any and all students about the various styles, passing on knowledge related to the foundations of hip hop, and molding individuals who will help shape Penn State and the world.
RAM has also advanced from cypher sized performances for other PSU clubs and events to stadium packed performances for PSU Athletics and THON. The makings of RAM’s current and hopefully bright future have come from not only its ability to produce well rounded dancers; it has come from the creation of events like Rhythm Spotlight and free workshops for anyone including students, other artists, and THON Families.
RAM will always continue to honor its foundations of freestyle and sharing a love of hip hop with PSU. We have grown to include many more aspects of the art, but we know that it is the small things like the 10:00pm performance on a Tuesday night or the hour long workshop for a group of 5 that has made RAM…RAM.
